7 years as a classroom teacher, 5 years as an elementary librarian
Taught 2nd and 4th grade before becoming a librarian
I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family which includes my husband and two children. We enjoy being outdoors biking, hiking, swimming, and anything active. My favorite genre to read is historical fiction. I love to find ways to collaborate on history lessons in the library.
My Educational Philosophy:
Collaboration Co-teaching allows us to reduce your student to teacher ratio and engage students in learning. By collaborating together we can take your lessons deeper and integrate technology and 21st century learning skills into the curriculum.
21st century learning and technology In a society where there is an overwhelming amount of information, students must be taught how to become independent inquiring life-long learners. This means we must encourage them to be critical thinkers and question the world around them. They must also be proficient in using technology to help them seek the answers they ask as well as present their findings to others.
Access to the Library At Mockingbird Elementary we have a flexible schedule allowing all stakeholders to visit the library when they have a need. This also allows the opportunity for collaborative lessons that may extend past the typical 30-45 minute fixed library lesson. In addition to physical access to the library, the databases, the catalog, and other helpful links are also available 24 hours by accessing the library’s website.
Professional Development It is my belief that as educators, we must stay current to be effective teachers of 21st century learners. I will continue to develop as a professional by participating in conferences, listservs, and reading professional materials. I am also committed to helping you develop professionally and will provide several on campus opportunities for professional development as well as a monthly newsletter with resources that you may find beneficial.
